Grow up. I don’t blog about them often. They do often show up in my Instagram feed if you follow me there. But these are my boys Jack, 11 and Charlie, 8. When Jack was born I had just turned 24. Yup, I was a youngster. I used to worry about what people would think about me. If I forgot my wedding ring when I went to Target, I would get really self-conscious. I spent a little too much time thinking about what others thought of me, rather than just enjoying my life and not worrying! Stupid! and Weird, right? Little did I know that 11, almost 12 years later, I would worry about looking old when I went out. My little wiry grey hairs that pop out, my huge-arse wrinkle on my forehead, my starting-to-sag-upper-arm-skin. Sigh.

I guess the moral of the story is to enjoy what you have when you have it. For in what seems like a split second, those cooing babies, laughing toddlers who bring joyful noises and funny new words to life, and sweet chubby faces are growing into little men. Men who aren’t going to stick around because they are destined for great things out there in this world. Men who will go off to college, or the military, start their own families, and call me once a week if I’m lucky. Even though I don’t do it very often anymore, instead of spending so much damn time worrying about what others think of me, I’m going to better commit my mind and my time to loving these guys and all the other members of my family that I love so much. There is so much good, and fun, and love in this world. Seek it out. Quit worrying. Go do something that makes you deliriously happy and full of joy.

Why on earth are we here?

What makes you laugh. Like really, what makes you really laugh. For reals. (You know what made me laugh recently? This: NFLBLR) What makes your eyes tear up? Not fakey tears but real chunky fat gobs of tears flowing out of your eyes, getting in the way of your driving. What makes you feel empty, poor, alone. What makes you giddy with excitement? Real excitement, not the excitement you think you should have but the excitement that stirs your soul. That stirs everything around you and creates an audible buzz of energy.

Really, what makes you feel? What makes you feel anything? Things you love, people you love, things you hate, ideas you hate, ideas you fear. Ideas you are too afraid to even consider make you wretch with fear and loathing. What in this immensely beautiful but dangerous life make you feel joy? When do you feel overwhelming happiness? What are those moments exactly? Can you define them?

Do you feel them? Do you have those moments of bliss, hatred, love, fear?  Do you spin in the glory of those feelings? Do you let yourself go and surrender to them? Or are they hidden away. Do you fear what others will think, do you wonder what they will think of you? Do you dream of running and hiding and finding a world that accepts you and loves you for you?

What if it were right now? What if everything you felt was happening right now and you just let it go.  What if the fear and hatred and love and longing and joy and every feeling you have were to float away. Then what. Where do you gravitate? Where do you go? Who do you move toward?

To whom, to what — do you reach out?

That place where you are reaching toward, well that’s where you belong. Right there, in exactly that spot. Let yourself be there. Let yourself go. Go. Reach.

Grow.

Reach.

Go.

Go find the reason you are here. The reason you were put on this Earth. If you’ve already found it, awesome.

What do you do after the wedding? Take more photos? OKAY! I am totally on board!!!!

After the wedding you are relaxed, stress doesn’t even occur to you, you are sad that you won’t be able to wear your wedding dress again, you are so done with planning, BUT you miss your wedding! You miss all things wedding!! Why not jump back into your dress for a quickie photo shoot? Okay!! Want me to photograph it? OKAY! Day after wedding photos are typically super relaxed, way more casual, fun, funny, goofy, silly, not driven by time constraints, in gorgeous light and locations, quirky, vision-driven, emotional, free spirited, etc. Really, just take it from me, they are freaking FUN!

My past bride Jakki and her hilarious hubby Keith were amazingly willing to capture a few more photos after their wedding was long over. You see, Jakki is an incredibly talented floral artist just starting her own business after years of working in a retail flower establishment. Jakki’s work is pretty, organic, unique, quirky, original, and fun. It’s right up my alley!!! I really love wedding flowers with an organic twist. More natural looking than a contrived ball of flowers. Flowers and arrangements that include elements of nature – sticks, branches, grasses, etc. I’m not sure what draws to me more organic and elemental floral design but I adore it. Sooo, long story short. We included a lot of Jakki’s floral designs in a day after shoot! She is currently building a new website for her work and these photos will help her with that, too! Truth be told, I have a lot of weaknesses – but we all do, right? Right!? Blogging is most definitely one of my weaknesses. I am happy to say that being a mom is probably not a weakness (okay, sometimes when it involves cleaning bodily fluids and checking 6th grade math homework being a mom is one of my weaknesses). So, because I’m a better mom than blogger, perhaps that means I have my priorities in order. Yay! I suppose I should probably give you a taste of the 33 weddings I shot this year. It was a stunningly beautiful wedding year!!! This wedding took place at the Northampton Center for the Arts. Here are some of my faves from the day.
